What’s new?

We are launching a new set of benchmarks to help companies make data-driven decisions for board member and advisor equity grants.

These new benchmarks are based on initial equity grants to board members and advisors that have been issued since January 2024, and are shown based on post-money valuation.

How can I access the new Benchmarks?

1. Navigate to the Benchmarks page in Carta Total Compensation
2. Navigate to the “Board members and Advisors" tab on the Benchmarks page 

The appropriate benchmarks, based on your company’s valuation, will be highlighted on the page.

What’s new?

We have updated salary, total cash compensation, and equity benchmarks for all job areas and specializations across both valuation and headcount based peer groups. We have also added benchmarks for 5 new specializations:

• Sales Operations
• HR Operations
• Demand Generation
• Business Intelligence & Analytics
• Onboarding & Implementations

These new benchmarks are available for post-money valuation and capital raised peer groups. Benchmarks based on headcount for these roles, as well as notional equity value benchmarks, will be included in a future release

Benchmark Trends

In aggregate, salary and total cash compensation benchmarks are slightly higher than our last release, increasing by about 1%. These increases were consistent across all valuation peer groups and levels. Similar to previous updates, specialization level data continues to change more than the broader sample, as sample sizes for these roles are smaller than job area level data.

Equity benchmarks are increasing in aggregate, showing about a 1.5% increase versus last quarter. Similar to last quarter, increases are fairly tightly correlated with company valuation, with higher valuation benchmarks seeing the largest increases.

What were the largest areas of movement from these benchmarks?

Salary - Salary benchmarks for most job areas and specializations are within 2% of last quarter’s data. Legal and Office Management saw the largest increases versus last quarter

Equity - Equity benchmarks are generally within 5% of last quarter’s benchmarks. UX/Frontend Engineering and Manufacturing increased by more than 5%

How do I update my benchmark version?

You can also preview the new benchmarks on your Scorecard by navigating to the Benchmarks page and clicking on the "Preview benchmarks" bubble in the top left.

Here you will have the opportunity to preview the new plan with the updated benchmarks version and assess their impact on your Scorecard before accepting the new plan.

We’ve improved the way you manage user access on Carta Fund Admin with a new layout for the People page and more intuitive permissions workflows. Only the look and feel of the page has changed—underlying access settings for all your users remain the same.

How it works

It’s now easier to see permissions at a glance on the People page, with access levels listed under Roles for each user and a breakdown by entity shown by hovering over the table.

Creating a new user is more straightforward, too. Each role is clearly defined during the access configuration process, so you know exactly what permissions you’re granting.

We’ve introduced a new flow for adding service providers – such as auditors – to your Carta account, so you can give external users the right level of access.

You’re also able to copy permissions from an existing user, streamlining the setup process and standardizing access across your firm.

Why it matters

With this release, you can manage permissions more efficiently and consistently. It’s now easier for you to ensure firm members and service providers only have access to the data and features necessary for their roles, reducing the risk of unauthorized access. 

Availability

The new People page is available to all Carta Fund Admin customers. Only account admins are able to view and edit permissions for their firm.

Your Investments Dashboard is getting a major refresh, delivering more interactive controls, clearer visibility into the metrics you care about most, and new customization tools, all integrated into a single unified experience.

We’ve started rolling out major upgrades that significantly improve your ability to view and customize investment data at the firm, fund, and portfolio company level. 

• More data: We've introduced new metrics and integrated asset-level data directly into the new experience. Instead of navigating separately to your fund view to the metrics on the SOI, everything now lives here.
• Dynamic Tables: Navigate data easily with sticky headers, infinite scrolling, and dynamic column widths.
• Flexible Grouping: Group by Fund to view roll-ups and performance at different aggregation levels.

We're rolling out additional enhancements in the coming weeks:

• Filter by fund, fund family, or tags: Easily filter your dashboard view by specific entities, making it faster to find and review exactly what you need.
• Export your view: Export everything displayed on your screen, including new asset-level details and any applied filters.
• Group by fund: Currently, your data is grouped by company. Soon, you'll have the option to group investments by fund entity for greater flexibility and insight.

What’s new?

We've made general UI/UX improvements to the hiring plan tool that is part of the Manage Employees experience. We've also added the ability to save and delete individual hiring plans that can then be incorporated into the Equity Pool Forecast for your company.

How do I create and save a hiring plan?

1. Navigate to Manage Employees
2. Click on "Launch Hiring Planner"
3. Click "New Hiring Plan", type in a name for your plan, and click "Create New Plan"

Once you've created a hiring plan you can add/delete potential hires, rename the plan, or delete the plan.

How do I incorporate a hiring plan into my equity pool forecast?

When you have added all potential hires to your hiring plan, click on "View Detailed Forecast" in the banner below the hiring plan

On the equity pool forecast page, select the hiring plan that you'd like to include in the forecast

What’s new?

We have added new geographic adjustment factors for three cities in Canada: Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. The rest of Canada will now have its own geo-adjustments for salary and equity

How do I view new benchmarks?

In order to see city-specific geo-adjustments for Canada you will need to update your benchmark version. You can update your benchmark version by navigating to the Benchmarks page and clicking on the "Preview benchmarks" bubble in the top left.

Here you will have the opportunity to preview the new plan with the updated benchmarks version and assess their impact on your Scorecard before accepting the new plan.

Once your benchmark version has been updated you will be able to see the new adjustments on the Benchmarks page, within your Compensation Plan, and both the Company and Employee Scorecards

What’s New

Easily and securely share financial statements as part of your investor updates. Connect directly to your accounting system, select the desired time frame, and include a one-time snapshot of your financials in your next investor update – all within Carta’s investor updates tool. 

Why is it Valuable

Most portfolio companies send investor updates once a quarter. With a one-time setup to connect your accounting system, you can make all future updates faster, easier, and more comprehensive for both you and your investors. 

Easily select and review financial statements before sending. Using Carta’s communication center, you can control who sees your data, conveniently import your investor list from the cap table, and allow investors to securely view and reply to your updates—including cap table and financial statements–all in one centralized, trackable location.

How does it work

You can set this up by:

1. Get your Quickbooks or accounting software login information
2. Navigating to your Carta account
3. Go to the Communications Center
4. Click on ‘New Message’
5. Choose any template you want to update your shareholders about
6. Under import financials click Connect to use QuickBooks or See all for the other providers available

1. Once you’ve prepared connecting your accounting system and composed your investor update, you can review your financial statements. 

1. In the review screen you view the data from your accounting system, select the period, and add notes you want your investors to see alongside the data. 
2. After you submit the investor update message with the imported financials, the financials will appear under Company Financials view.

What recipients will see:

1. After a message is sent, the recipient receives an email notification with a link to view it. 
2. New users are prompted to create an account, while existing users are taken directly to their Carta inbox.

1. If financials have been imported, the investor will be able to click View Company Financials link and view the uploaded documents directly in the Financials tab, monthly and quarterly view.

Who is this for?

Authorized company administrators or users with the new Investor Relations permission, can set up the financial integration and send messages to investors through the communications center.
